One giant leap
We've never settled for the status quo. Ever since Colin Chapman's first conception of what Lotus could be, we've been driven by the restless pursuit of innovation. You can see it in our cars and technology, in our rejection of industry norms and accepted practices. And you can see it clearest of all in our future.
With the launch of Driving Change, Lotus is raising the bar for the auto industry and committing to a fully electric product range. Our new Environmental, Social, and Governance Charter isn't about compromise. It's about leveraging the potential of new and emerging technologies to create the kind of driving experiences that simply weren't possible until now.
“Now, more than ever, we recognise our responsibility to lead our industry in minimising its impact on the environment, benefitting society and the planet as a whole.”
Matt Windle, Managing Director of Lotus Cars
Just look at the Evija. Our all-electric hypercar is the most powerful production car in history. Its unprecedented speed, acceleration, and driving dynamics are a product of its revolutionary electric powertrain. Petrol was never this fast. And its ‘carved by air’ philosophy is carried over to the new Eletre and Emira, both engineered to be more recoverable and recyclable than ever before.
But moving towards an all-electric line-up of high performance vehicles is just the start of our future-oriented journey. We want to prove that sustainability is a key element of performance, not something that detracts from it. And we’ll do this by becoming a Science-Based Target Initiative organisation. That might sound complicated, but SBTi provides real-world guidance and methods for companies, setting targets that are in line with proven climate science.
We’re working towards truly net-zero operations, and a lot of these measures are already in place. For instance, Lotus has signed the COP26 zero emissions vehicle declaration, and uses renewable energy to power all UK sites. We’re also working to put our people front-and-centre of this sustainable growth, prioritising wellbeing across the company, and making sure everything we do champions diversity, equality and inclusion.
And of course, we’re already investing in the next generation of drivers. We’re stimulating ambition with educational outreach programmes and the Lotus Learning Academy, and working with local communities to provide support and stability around our operations.
“Lotus as a business has always been agile, efficient, and impactful within the automotive industry,” explains Matt Windle, Managing Director of Lotus Cars. “Now, more than ever, we recognise our responsibility [to] lead our industry in minimising its impact on the environment, benefitting society and the planet as a whole.”
It’s a long journey, but we’re already picking up speed. The future of Lotus has never looked more exciting.
